Meadow Dance by Amanda Murphy
Hi everyone!
Brewer kindly invited me over today to talk about my new Meadow Dance collection for Contempo of Benartex and the patterns, panel and rulers, thread collection, and embroidery collection that coordinate with it. Some of you may have already seen Meadow Dance pop up in stores and I hope that you are enjoying using it to create something you love! I'm always so impressed with what people come up with so make sure to take a picture of your creations on post to Instagram tagging @amandamurphydesign!
To start at the beginning, I originally envisioned Meadow Dance as a sort of "over the top" floral collection, where big bold blooms would be dramatically set against either a very dark background or a very light background. I wanted the prints to have little details and pops of color and that would allow you to combine them to combine them in a variety of ways to get very different results. I really think those unexpected surprises are what makes quilting so very enjoyable, don't you?
You can see what I mean about the drama and contrast in my first pattern, Meadow Blooms. This looks like a very different quilt when set off by the dark grey (my current color obsession, if grey can be called a color?)

Meadow Blooms is a simple two-block quilt, although it looks much more complex. I custom quilted the grey version using my new Traditional Feathers Quilting Collection, which is digitized for BOTH longarm and domestic quilting machines.
Meadow Song is next... it is super scrappy and fun. I wanted to play with a two color background here, but also a non-traditional Dresden setting. This pattern works beautifully with the Easy Dresden Ruler by Darlene Zimmerman, or you can use the template provided.
Next up is Meadowsweet, an elegant appliqué wall hanging. I always like to include one applique pattern in each of my collections and this one is no exceptions. A download code for SVG files for digital fabric cutters is included of course. And there a coordinating button pack from Just Another Button Company to make things easy!
Some of you might know that I travel the country teaching at BERNINA dealerships. I kept hearing shop owners asking for quilt-as-you-go patterns. Meadow Minis, which can be used as a block-of-the-month, does just that! You can finish it as minis or there are directions to finish it as a "quilt-as-you-go" style of quilt. Best of all, there are quilting instructions for each month using a basic straight line and curved ruler, plus a little free-motion.
Probably the Meadow Dance item that has generated the most excitement this time has been the Meadow Dance panel. There is a guide that gives directions for using two different Westalee ruler sets - Beautiful Borders or Feather Focus. Quilt one or both! The rulers come in three different thicknesses es so make sure to order the correct thickness for your customers!
(Note: There will also be directions for quilting the panel using the BERNINA Q-Matic on the BERNINA longarm available to BERNINA dealers soon through their Infogate.)
All patterns and the ruler guide are 10% now through September 30th.
Aurifil and I put together a Meadow Dance Thread Collection that works beautifully with this collection, whether you are appliquéing Meadowsweet or quilting the panel or any of the other patterns!
And OESD put together a coordinating Meadow Dance Embroidery Collection. This one is on my "to-stitch" list for sure!
