Do you feel like it’s a waste throwing out all those little leftover fabric pieces from other projects? A great solution to this pickle is incorporating paper piecing into your next project. Foundation/paper piecing is the practice of using very lightweight paper as a guide to sew more easily and with greater accuracy using uneven pieces.

So the next time you have a collection of motley fabric swatches, consider utilizing paper piecing. All that’s required is a light box or window to trace your block design onto the paper. Don’t forget to allow ¼” seam around all edges!

If you need some help getting started, check out this quilting project book that will tell you everything you need to know about working with English paper pieced hexagons. Or you may want to start off with a pattern template.

This is a great opportunity to create some funky, eclectic quilt designs. No need to purchase new fabrics for your paper-pieced projects! Try something new on your own, or for some more design inspiration, check out our Pinterest Board!
